The Lord of the Rings - Sting, the sword of Frodo Baggins
Stinger, the sword of Frodo Baggins
Original replica Lord of the Rings sword made by United Cutlery
The stinger is a magical short sword from the legendary city of Gondolin, made by elves in ancient times. Bilbo Baggins, Frodo's uncle and the original bearer of the Ring, found him in a troll lair in Rhûdaur. He carried it with him when he originally acquired the Ring from Gollum and wielded it throughout most of his quest. Sting eventually saved his life in a fight against the giant spiders of Mirkwood. On the blade and guard, the following Tengwar runes are engraved in Sindarin - the language of the Gray Elves: Maegnas aen estar nín - dagnir in ynyl im (=Stinger is my name; I am the spider's curse). The blade of the sword glows blue when the Orcs, Sauron's violent foot soldiers, approach. Sixty years later, it is up to his nephew Frodo and the chosen Company to cast the Ring back into the fires of Mount Doom, where it was originally forged, and destroy it once and for all. Bilbo gives his sword to Frodo to serve him on his harrowing journey.
