Cold Steel Competition Cutting Sword
Although Japanese sword-cutting competitions have been popular for many decades, until recently there was little or no interest in exploring the cutting potential of Western swords. Now, in response to this awakening, Cold Steel® wants to encourage it by offering its own competitive cutting sword.
Based on the Arbedu sword, it is intended for cutting competitions. The thin, wide, double-edged blade is hand-forged from 1055 high-carbon steel with a hard spring tempering and is supplied fully sharpened and polished.
The Arbedo sword is a type of late Renaissance sword, specifically a war sword named after the Battle of Arbedo in 1422. It is characterized by a broad, stiff blade of high-carbon steel with a distally tapered profile for better balance and handling, and a narrow hilt that can be used with one or two hands. The historical original is on display at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
For maximum control and leverage when attempting great cutting feats, the Cold Steel® Competition Cutting Sword comes with a solid leather-covered wooden handle that will accommodate one or both hands. To protect the fingers and deflect opposing blades, a simple but effective steel guard with double quillon steel is provided. To balance the wide blade, it is fitted with an attractive extended diamond-shaped steel pommel, and comes in a thick and sturdy black leather scabbard with a matching steel neck and bit.
1055 High Carbon Steel
The carbon content and low alloy of this shallow-tempered steel make it a very tough material that avoids much of the brittleness usually associated with higher carbon materials. It is particularly suited to blades that require impact resistance, often seen in large fixed blades and swords.
