Description

The shashka is a saber of Caucasian origin that was adopted by the Russian army in the 19th century and eventually became the legendary weapon of the famous Cossacks. Its most distinctive feature was the hilt, which lacked conventional protection and was fitted with a distinctive tumbled grip. Due to its unique overall design, the flail was most effective when wielded from a horse and therefore perfectly suited for cavalry.

The beautiful piece offered here is a reproduction of an original 1927 Pattern Soviet Cossack Saber (M1927), manufactured in 1934 at the Zlatoust Armory, USSR. This type of shasha was still used in the ranks of the Red Army during the Second World War.
The EN45 full blade single edge spring steel blade has not been sharpened and has been given an old patina to simulate signs of wear. The finely detailed top is engraved with the initials CCCP, a star, and a hammer and sickle. The necklace/collar has the markings and serial number of the original artifact it is modeled after. Both the handle and the rest are cast from brass and given an antique finish. The grooved handle is made of wood.
