Description

Named after Robert I of Scotland (1274-1329), commonly known as Robert the Bruce, this one-handed sword is not a reconstruction of the weapon of this famous Scottish warrior, but a tribute to his great deeds and legacy. In 1314, after years of campaigning against the English crown, King Robert defeated the army of Edward II of England at the Battle of Bannockburn, a decisive battle that eventually led to the re-establishment of Scottish independence. Just like the legendary William Wallace, Robert the Bruce is still one of Scotland's most famous historical figures.

This decorative one-handed weapon sword features a double-edged EN45 spring steel blade with a long, broad point. The edges are not sharpened and the entire tip of the blade is recessed into the apple. The handle consists of a slightly curved crosspiece, a thick octagonal apple (Oakeshott type I1, most popular in the 14th century) and a wooden core handle intricately bound in braided brown leather.

The guard and apple are made of solid brass and inlaid with bright red enamel details. While the ends of the quilons are decorated with crosses, the apple has the so-called lion rampant (a heraldic depiction of a lion standing erect with its front paws raised as if to strike) which strongly resembles the coat of arms of King Robert of Scotland - a crimson lion rampant on a yellow background.

This high medieval knight's sword comes complete with a brown wood and leather scabbard with two brass carrying rings.
Note that this medieval sword is not a battle-ready weapon. It is designed as a collector's or decorative/display piece and is not suitable for combat reenactments. In addition to being a collector's item, it is also perfectly suited as a prop, for example to complete your costume and will make your transformation into a proud knight or a noble king perfect.
