Description

This Roman spatha is a reconstruction based on several original 3rd century specimens found near Podlodów (now Poland), in the archaeological region of the Przeworsk culture. Along the Limes, the border of the Roman Empire, several more blades of the Podlodów type were found. It is assumed that most of these spathae originated in Roman forges and eventually found their way beyond the borders of the Empire to Barbaricum.

Although the length of the blade did not differ much from its earlier counterparts, this particular variant of the spath featured a wider blade with typically two to four fulls and is believed to have been designed as an effective cutting sword for close combat.
The double-edged double-edged Roman longsword broad blade offered here is forged from EN45 spring steel. The edges are not sharpened and the blade is full of screws attached to the tip. The handle with a flattened, oval guard and tip and an octagonal handle is made of wood with brass inserts.

This Roman one-handed sword comes complete with a red wood and leather scabbard with a brass cover and hanging loop (max belt width 5cm), accented with black rope decorations.

Note that this sword is not a battle ready weapon. It is designed as a collector's or decorative/display piece and is not suitable for combat reenactments. In addition to its quality as a collector's item, it is also perfectly suited as a prop, eg to complete your costume.
