John Lee Shintai Katana
Hand-forged samurai sword from the John Lee series
- hand forged from 1045 carbon steel
- the blade is folded 12 times (8,000 layers) and has a beautiful structure
- the sharpened blade has a groove to reduce weight
- the handle (tsuka) is made of wood and covered with real rye leather (the same)
- the handle is wrapped (tsuka-ito) with traditional black cotton
- there are two decorative protrusions for gripping (menuki)
- the handle (tsuka) is attached to the blade with bamboo pegs (mekugi)
- the scabbard (saya) is made of wood
- the blade has a brass collar (habaki) so that it will not rattle in the scabbard
- design follows museum originals

JOHN LEE Shintai Katana
Shintai are material objects that play the role of religious relics. In Japanese mythology, they are considered the abode of the gods (Kami). The sword among the jewels (Japanese royal regalia) is a typical shintai. The tsuba depicts Japanese gods.
