Description

Viking sword Godfred functional, blunt
This is a beautiful functional, battle-ready reproduction of the sword that belonged to the fearsome Danish King Godfred (also called Gudfred or Gudrød). Until his death in 810, King Godfred lived and ruled in Hedeby (also called Haithabu), the main Viking settlement on the Jutland peninsula (near the city of Schleswig).

The sword dates back to the 8th century and its shape is typical of an early medieval Viking sword: a short guard slightly curved forward, a straight double-edged blade with a characteristic tip and a wide pommel with three protrusions. This sword is exclusively handmade. The guard and three-pronged pommel are made of heat-treated tempered cast iron. The spring steel blade is hand-fastened to the tip. The handle is wrapped with wide leather straps. The blade is oil-hardened to 48-50° Rockwell and has a distinctive edge that offers great flexibility and less weight. The edges of the blade are blunt and the tip is rounded for safety. The beautiful wooden scabbard covered in leather has two straps with buckles. These can, for example, be attached to the straps of your sword belt.

- Max. blade width: approx. 44 mm
