Description

Gladius Mainz with scabbard
This sword has an unsharpened blade made of EN45 spring steel. The handle is made of wood and bone.
The richly decorated scabbard is made of wood covered with leather with brass and sheet metal fittings. A leather strap attached to the suspension rings ensures the sword is comfortably carried.

One of the main weapons with which Roman legionaries conquered large parts of the then known world was the short sword (Gladius). The different types are categorized primarily based on the shape of the blade and the location where they were found.
This sword (Latin: gladius) belongs to the Mainz type and this reproduction is based on a find from Fulham (UK) with a double-edged blade. It was extremely effective for cutting and stabbing techniques during battle and was a weapon that was greatly feared by all.
