RICHARD I THE LIONHEART (1157-1199)
In the late 12th century, the historical figure of Richard the Lionheart emerged as a warrior king, crusading knight, and prince of troubadours.
By 1189 he had become King of England, and before the Third Crusade in 1190 he had defeated the infidel Saladin and liberated the Holy Land; ensuring that his name would live on forever as one of the greatest English monarchs.
