The dragon still plays an important role in Japan today, and not only when it comes to celebrating the New Year. Contrary to Western mysticism, the dragon is a mystical creature in Japan that is said to bring people good luck. The katana has a hand-forged blade made of carbon steel. The tsuba of this extraordinary sword features a dragon surrounding the sword. The sharp blade has a hi to reduce the overall weight. The handle (tsuka) is made of wood, covered with real fish skin and has two menuki. In addition, it is traditionally wrapped in black cotton. The tang is particularly long and fixed with two bamboo wedges (mekugi). The scabbard (saya) is made of wood, and the blade collar (habaki) is made of brass. This katana is made according to original museum specimens.
