Royal medieval helmet with brass crown
The so-called Great Helmets worn by kings on the battlefield were usually equipped with a crown to distinguish them from others and highlight their status. Thus, their own troops could easily recognize them in battle and provide them with special protection. He may also have given them the option of being taken hostage and held for ransom, rather than being killed outright by opposing forces. The so-called large helmet was widespread throughout Central Europe in the Middle Ages. Numerous historical illustrations, miniatures and finds from Germany, Flanders, England, Italy, Switzerland, Austria, etc. testify to the popularity of this type of helmet at that time. Such helmets appeared during the Crusades in the late 12th / early 13th century. and were commonly worn by knights well into the 14th century.
The finely handcrafted medieval helmet we offer here is made of 1.6mm thick steel and decorated with a brass crown. All components are connected with steel rivets. Each eye slit is approx. 13 cm long, 0.5 to 1 cm wide and numerous round cutouts on the right side of the rudder ensure proper ventilation.
The blackened interior is equipped with leather suspension. The 3 mm thick brown leather chin strap is adjustable and closes with an antique brass buckle.
