Shogun Tsuru Katana - Every part of this sword has been expertly crafted by highly skilled smiths using centuries-old methods. The blade is forged from 1095 high-carbon steel and differentially hardened in clay using traditional methods, with a spine hardness of 45-48 HRC (Rockwell) and a harder edge of 56-58 HRC. This ancient hardening method creates a hamon - a hard visible line that remains when the clay is removed. Each blade is ground and sharp. Handcrafted in a small town located in the Longquan Mountains of Zhejiang province, where the tradition of skilled sword making began more than 2000 years ago.
The tsuba and pommel depict a Crane, an ancient Japanese symbol of good fortune, longevity, and peace (Japanese mythology claims the Crane lived for a thousand years). Each is made of brass and has an antique finish. The handle is made of genuine ray skin wrapped with cord.
The wooden scabbard (saya) is painted black with a glossy finish.
Includes a cotton storage bag. Also includes a Shogun katana cleaning and maintenance kit, in an elegant wooden box.
