This premium quality, functional Bowie knife was manufactured by Windlass Steelcrafts®. This historical reproduction Bowie knife is approximately 40 cm long and features a one-piece solid brass handle and an AISI 1075 high carbon steel blade.
This impressive knife is copied from a unique early American Bowie knife featured on page 56 of The Antique Bowie Knife Book (printed in 1990, one of the first books to present a large collection of some of the finest and rarest Bowie knives in the world).
The original knife was not marked, but the general consensus among knife experts is that it was likely manufactured by The Ames Manufacturing Company in Chicopee, Massachusetts, which was a major manufacturer of swords, cannons, and cannonballs during the Civil War.
The "fish scale" handle is identical to the 1841 naval cutlass, and brass was a rot and rust-resistant material, minimizing maintenance.
The knife comes with a leather sheath that features the same tooling pattern as the museum original.
