Katana John Lee Shirasaya (black color)
- The blade of the sword is forged from 1045 high-carbon steel and hardened steel with artificial hamon.
- Sharpened blades have Bo-Hi (fuller) grooves to reduce weight.
- The handles are particularly long and attached to the handle with two bamboo wedges (Mekugi). The swords can thus be completely disassembled.
- Necklaces with blades (Habaki) are made of metal.
- Handles and scabbards (Saya) are made of wood.
The Shirasaya was a special sword holder designed to ensure better preservation of the blade at night or in case of prolonged disuse. The advantage of untreated magnolia wood lies in its low acidity and the absence of other substances that could damage the blade. It wasn't post-treated, it absorbed the sword's moisture and channeled it. The katana remained dry and rust-free.
