O Bokken, a polypropylene practice sword
Improved 2015 version with imitation wrapped rope holder
The world's best martial artists have known a simple truth for years: if you want to become reasonably good at handling fighting equipment, you should strive to learn the best fighting techniques, footwork, and basic stances. However, if you want to be a master at it, you will need to start training with live weapons over time.
If, for example, your ultimate goal is to safely and effectively wield a razor-sharp sword, you should train with a sword that approximates the size, feel, and weight of a live blade, yet minimizes the possibility of causing serious, permanent, or life-threatening injury to you. or your training partner.
This concept was implemented by the ancient Romans, who used blunt wooden swords to train their gladiators and soldiers, and the Japanese samurai used a wooden practice sword called a bokken. The Bokken is made from super strong Japanese white oak wood, a wood they called Kashi. This type of wooden sword is an elegant solution to a vexing problem and effective enough to be used today, but authentic Kashi wood bokken are getting quite expensive. Another problem is that wooden practice weapons can rot, crack, splinter or split and eventually become useless.
Cold Steel's solution to these dilemmas was to design a line of low-cost, weather-resistant synthetic replacements. The Cold Steel line of practice guns are made from the heaviest polypropylene available and are very similar to their real counterparts in length, size and feel. Although they are not as strong as wood, they have the winning advantage of being virtually unbreakable, extremely strong and resistant to cuts.
Cold Steel's Japanese practice swords are closely modeled after the world famous Warrior Series swords. Their wide blades mimic the moving lines of Warrior swords, but because they're made from super-tough polypropylene, with no sharp edges or points, they're perfect for armored sparring, training, conditioning and ball work.
Each model also features an intricately detailed simulated shell, offering superior control even when wearing heavy gloves. These swords offer the ultimate in heavy-duty training potential for the modern martial artist.
